Native to Central America, Monstera deliciosa is also known as split-leaf philodendron or swiss cheese plant. It is a perennial climbing vine that is evergreen and distinguished by its long, cord-like aerial roots and huge, perforated leaves on sturdy plant stalks. It may grow to astonishing heights of up to 70 feet in its native tropical climate, with leaves ranging in length from one to three feet covering the stems. Indoor plants usually reach a height of 6 to 8 feet. The adult leaves of the plant are enormous, glossy, and deeply green. They are clearly cut and perforated. Young leaves are usually tiny and untrimmed.

Description

Although the genus’ name is not totally established, it is thought to have come from the name Linnaeus gave to this group of plants, Dracontium. As a revision of Linnaeus, the term Monstera first appears in a 1763 publication; however, no explanation is given as to why that name was chosen. The sweet banana and pineapple are represented by the particular identifier for the delectable edible fruit.

This illustration displays the yellow variegated variant, which is distinctly present on all of the leaf parts. Excellent addition to your collection of indoor plants.
